Reunited at last!

Dr Einir Young

The afternoon of Wednesday 16th February 2022 was a bit day for me – the first face to face meeting with #Ecoamgueddfa partners since the beginning of 2020. We met at Oriel Plas Glyn y Weddw and it was brilliant that ten of us could meet in person with three joining us virtually. It’s amazing how the pandemic has facilitated hybrid communication.

Prior to the meeting I had time to peruse the Opening Exhibition of 2022. It’s on until 20th March. You can see it without leaving the comfort of your home.

Siân Parri’s work ‘Gwreiddiau’ (roots) focusses on the sense of Welshness and the value of the Welsh language. It is particularly timely as 60 years has passed since Saunders Lewis delivered his seminal lecture ‘Tynged yr Iaith’ (the fate of the language) in February 1962. My mother remembers listening to the lecture live on the radio at the time.

The renovations to the building are progressing well and expectations are running high for the opening of the new café this summer. In the meantime the Gallery’s popular café has been relocated on the first floor serving delicious food.

The partners had a good old catch up. I won’t go into detail here but you are free to wander through our website. Don’t forget to check the events calendar and if you can, do join us on our St David’s day walk to learn more about the archaeology of Mynydd Rhiw. See you there – and if you can’t make it take a virtual tour!
